How "small" is your F650?

Postby F650Scooter on November 7th, 2009, 3:24 am

Anybody out there who's tall riding one of these besides me? I just got it up and going and felt oversized for it.

I'm 6'5" or 195cm, and it feels like I'm to far forward- like my eyes were level over the front fork, which wasn't really uncomfortable, but feels front heavy, like the balance of the bike from front to back won't be right...

I have other enduros and feel fine on them- Triumph Tiger 955i, and 2 TT600 Yamahas, plus I've had dozens of other stuff- like XT550's and XT500's as well as Suz*k* Big Red (800cc single 4 stroke)

Its almost as if the hump in the seat is what causes it- anyone have theirs re-formed for size reasons?

Which F650 do you have?

I'm only 6', and my Funduro was intolerable with the stock seat. A custom seat with the "hole" filled in and the hump moved back solved the problem.

The newer GS has several seats available. I'm riding a Dakar with the tall seat and the TT peg kit (slightly back and lower) and it's quite roomy. My wife's GS has the low seat and stock pegs and feels low and small to me.

6'2" here, 195 pounds.

I solved the "cramped" issue by placing a few layers of kitchen shelf liner on the depressed section of the saddle under a sheepskin pad. The sheepskin is attached to the saddle with velcro straps. Comfortable, and I sit higher than the majority of people driving SUV's. I will install a set of either Fastway or Pivot footpegs, both have a platform height that is lower than the OEM pegs. This should improve the comfort level for my legs.

Hi, its a 1999 Funduro. It makes sense- that hump is shoving me up over the bars too far.

I also like the idea of roomier pegs set back- my size 13 shoes are cramped up too close, and if I wear my boots- forget it.

How did you approach the seat being made? Thats my next plan, as its got a small slash in it anyway.

My legs are also shoved up into the tank where the curve is, which is nice and tight if I wanted to race and corner, but I'm stuck there, and its not the way I want to ride....

Anybody hear of the "Monkey F$%#@&^n' a Football" adage...? :) I'm the new poster boy for the Monkey...

Hi, the height is not my issue, its the length- between the seat and the bars- I think, and the footpegs have my legs up into the tank.

You're from LT? My friend was just hired as their new head coach for the National Team in Basketball. Good guy, will do a great job- much better than Batuuts.

You look WAY more comfortable seated on yours than I do.

I'm afraid to go higher- as I will be top heavy and feel off balanced. I'm looking more at the pegs and the seat being flattened out- almost like the old scrambler type seats, if you remember them. Where your legs hit would be OK for me- mine feel like they're past where your vent hole is. Your head is also further back- my eyes were almost directly over the risers.

Let me know about the pegs if you shop and get them, I have a care package coming with helmets and a new water pump for my F350 Powerstroke on the way soon, and can have them added. Lots of stuff they either don't sell here, or sell cheap junk, or have triple the price. Good oil is about 20 bucks a liter. I paid 15 for my oil filter yesterday. They wanted 150 to do the oil change at BMW- oil cost there was $30 a liter.

I got a GS...but at 1.92m- I mostly sit way back- on half the "passenger" part of the seat.
The handlebar risers did a lot to make the bike comfortable.
To ride standing up IS a bit "strange" as I have to "lean forward" a lot ...but I have gotten used that too.
--------------
I did plan on both remaking the seat (as MANY have done themselves ) and modify the footpegs...but got used to the bike as it is. I can easily ride 5- 8+ hours a day.
Sore butt , but not too bad.

Yup. That Funduro seat is torture for taller people.

I sent mine to Sargent, with instructions to build up the front so it was essentially flat, and move the hump back about 2". And to use some better foam. I got it back and it was _so_ much better. At the time, my wife had a Funduro, too, and I'd ride it once in a while with the stock seat, and promptly remember the misery.

You can build up the seat with towels (and maybe a little tape) to try out some different shapes.

Here's a DIY page:

The white bike in the post above isn't a Funduro, it's a GS. Different seat and position.
