I'm a new member here - having just purchased an G650GS - upgrading from a 250cc.
My husband and I both ride bikes (His a KLR).

BMW Fresno - 100 miles Nth, BMW Bakersfield - 65 miles Sth.

Hwy 190 over the Sierra is a great ride, as is Yokul Valley Rd., that takes you over to Hwy 198 and Three Rivers into Sequoia ands Kings River park.
Between us and Bakersfield is another high pass (or two) via Glennville, twisty roads in beautiful surroundings.

There is organized camping between us (Springville) and Porterville to the West.

Porterville boasts a hotel or two.

Springville has a gas station, steak house, coffee shop and an Inn - but don't blink, it is a hotbed of tranquility!

Bike's running great - still looking for the inside/outside temperature gauge and cup holder - it has everything else though.
